The detention of Ricardo González Saucedo, known as 'El Ricky' or 'Comandante R', triggered a series of shootouts and blockades in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. González Saucedo, considered the second-in-command of the Northeast Cartel (CDN), was arrested by elements of the Mexican Army, National Guard, and Attorney General's Office in the 150 Aniversario neighborhood at 7:46 AM on Monday.

Ricardo González Saucedo, alias 'El Ricky' or 'Comandante R', is the second-in-command of the Northeast Cartel and was the regional leader in Nuevo León and Coahuila. He is wanted for homicide, extortion, illegal deprivation of liberty, and attacks on police forces. In August 2024, he coordinated an aggression in which military personnel were injured and killed in Nuevo Laredo.

Following González Saucedo's arrest, there were blockades and shootouts. The 'Quetzalcóatl' international airport suspended the scheduled flights for the day and rescheduled them for the next day. There were reports of people being stripped of their vehicles by armed criminals, while businesses closed due to the risk situation in the area.

The United States Consulate in Nuevo Laredo advised its personnel to remain sheltered due to the multiple shootings in the city. Citizens were recommended not to leave their homes and to take precautions. The detention was carried out thanks to the work of intelligence agents who identified Saucedo in possession of a firearm.

The mayor of Nuevo Laredo, Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, alerted citizens about the presence of blockades and shootouts in various sectors of the city, urging them to take precautions. The detention of 'El Ricky' created a tense atmosphere in the city, with multiple incidents reported in different areas of Nuevo Laredo.
